"Don't be into trends. Don't make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live." - Gianni Versace
From Ninth & Everett's Co-Founder, Josiah Loyarr:
"I had the pleasure of talking with Mary, the mastermind behind "Happily Grey", an internationally known fashion blog late last week. Mary is truly captivating. I had followed her blog for quite some time via instagram (@happilygrey). I always thought she was beautiful... but in person, MARY IS STUNNING. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to chat with her and learn from her. With over 500,000 followers on instagram alone, Mary is known around the world for her incredible unique style and her ability to capture personality with each outfit."
Mary best describes her style in the Bio section of her website:
"My style is unplanned, and is generally a reflection of my mood. I’m not sure I actually have a concrete approach to my blog other than just following my intuition day to day. I think style encompasses more than just the clothes you see. The way one walks, talks, stands, and most importantly, the confidence all create style. I am no fashion expert. I am learning and evolving more everyday as Happily Grey grows in its own way. Creating unique, original content in an untainted light has never felt more essential."
Nashville Fashion Week took place a few weeks ago and Mary was awarded the "Point Of View Award" for her hard work and continuous success in her self made fashion career.
Q & A WITH @HAPPILYGREY
N&E: How long have you been blogging?
HG: 4 years
N&E: When you started your Instagram account, was it a goal to be as successful as you have been or were you more so taking pictures like any other 20 something?
HG: I started my Instagram account 6 months after launching Happily Grey blog. At this time, Instagram wasn't near as big or a social mainstay as it is now. I added it on as a new platform to push imagery. My team and I work really hard to capture engaging imagery. We were getting such good feedback from Happily Grey readers, it seemed like the right platform to add.
Now the approach is a bit different. Instagram is now a standard social channel you launch with your new business.
N&E: What part of your lifestyle career have you found to be the most challenging?
HG: Hiring/delegating. Finding someone that echoes my voice and has a similar point of view is so important to maintain a brand DNA. Not just someone that can decrease workload, but also really contribute ideas and be a brand catalyst. I've learned the key is to just be patient and adament on what you re looking for.
N&E: We have seen you post photos from ALL over the world! If we had a free plane ticket to anywhere in the world, where should we go?
HG: Right now?! Floianopolis, Brazil! Just confirmed I will be there in October! Can't wait to share that experience with my readers!
N&E: Out of all of the clothing designers that you have worn, if you could only have 3 things from your closet to keep, what would those 3 things be?
HG: black Balenciaga Ceinture Ankle Boots, black and white vintage Chanel flats, and black Isbabel Marant mini dress
